David Barber - Painter
Over the years painting has become a personal journey of discovery for me. For a long time I took a sort of 'trial and error' approach to painting. I would see artwork that struck a chord with me and subsequently attempt to recreate the essence of these works in my own paintings. I was never happy with the results though and always felt frustrated that I hadn't found my own 'voice'. It's only recently that I've began to realise that someone else's view of the world is exactly that; someone else's view of the world! My intention is therefore to look and think carefully about what 'I' see and ensure that I capture this in my painting. I want my paintings to tell the truth. We all see the world differently, but maybe in my paintings you'll see something that resonates with you too. Buying a painting isn't like buying a mass produced product. You're buying a 'piece' of the artist, a moment in their life and their unique view of the world. I want my customers to feel that they have a connection with me and will therefore do my utmost to ensure that you are completely satisfied with your painting and the service that you receive. If you'd like to commission a painting please contact me and we can discuss your requirements
1 hour oil sketch from the class I run every other Saturday.
I’ve been getting out into the fresh air over the past few days. Love the freedom and spontaneity
I think that this little painting completed in just over an hour has changed my outlook on what I do!
I decided that, in an attempt to get to know some of the locals in my village, I’d offer my services in the form of running a painting class. Saturday saw the first of these classes. A handful of people turned up and I set about explaining how I’d work my way through the process of making a painting. I then did a demo followed by the class having a go. i loved painting from life, albeit a pepper. I now want to do more of it. So, I’m going to brave the great outdoors and do some plein air painting. Watch this space!

The house is looking a lot better now. Time to get painting again!
Sorry I haven’t managed to upload any new paintings for a while. We’re a bit busy working on the house at the moment. Hopefully there’ll be some new work soon.
